Description

Alain Jean Tavés studied architecture at the Ecole Spéciale d’Architecture and after graduating in 1956 worked alongside Le Corbusier. He founded the Atelier d’Architecture et d’Urbanisme (Architecture and Urbanism Workshop) in 1965, after Le Corbusier’s death.

Tavés’ collaboration with Robert Sentou was marked by the commercialization in 1992 of the exstensible « Tavés Bed » by the Sentou Galerie. This remarkable bed was the fruit of prior research and development into non-industrial uses for transportation palets dating back to 1971.

Extendable platforms were transformed to create an exstensible bed, the prototype made from Oregon pine wood. Sentou Galerie subsequently tweaked the design for commercial manufacture.

« (The exstensible bed) is a beautiful object, practical, natural, timeless, « architectural » by virtue of its material and its lasting construction. » Alain Jean Tavés.
